Turned from pohutukawa, this medium-sized enclosed form carries the marks of both fire and time. The cracks and eroded rim give the vessel a sense of endurance.

Inspired by the Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban, the surface has been exposed to intense flame to darken both the interior and exterior. This controlled burning transforms the wood’s appearance, shifting focus from colour to the sculptural form while creating a finally textured surface.
